Obituary for Tommy Lee Van Zandt

Graveside services for Tommy Lee Van Zandt, 81, of Granbury, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014, in the Laurel Land Memorial Park of Fort Worth. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Van Zandt passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014. He was born Feb. 10, 1933, in Granbury to Tommy Bryson and Delia Carroll Van Zandt. Tommy graduated in the Class of 1951 from Cleburne High School and then went on to join the United States Army. He served during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in San Francisco, serving as a part of the Radar Coastline Defense Unit as a Corporal. Tommy worked for Montgomery Ward; first as a carpenter and later working his way up to layout supervisor before moving to the corporate offices in Chicago in 1984 where he was responsible for overseeing the construction and layout of all new and remodeled stores throughout the nation. He retired in 1989 and settled back in Granbury, where he remained until his death. His strong sense of character and integrity will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.

Tommy was preceded in his arrival in glory by his parents; sister, Faye McIntire; and brother, Bryson Van Zandt.
Survivors include his son, David Van Zandt and wife, Cathy, of Corsicana; son, Rick Van Zandt of Burleson; six grandchildren, Caleb Van Zandt and wife, Britnei; Aaron, Heather, Nathaniel, Jacob and Heath Van Zandt; half-sister, Sherria and husband, Stan Smith, of Houston; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
